Shipment connector

Search shipments, check empty returns, and start quotes.

Connect ChatGPT to one authorized Conterminal workspace for shipment questions, source-dated terminal empty-return checks, and internal quote drafts.

Effective July 22, 2026

What it does

Search by container, master bill of lading, reference, vessel, terminal, status, hold, hot-load flag, or supported shipment date. Then ask for a curated operational snapshot of a returned shipment, including milestones and current operational flags. You can also check a terminal's published empty-return feed or turn a plain-language request into an editable internal quote draft.

Connect from ChatGPT

  • Choose the Conterminal Shipments plugin in ChatGPT.
  • Sign in to your existing Conterminal account.
  • Select one eligible carrier or freight-forwarder workspace during authorization.
  • Approve the connection. Reconnect to select a different workspace.

For clients that support a direct remote MCP URL, use https://www.conterminal.com/api/mcp.

Available tools

  • Search shipments returns up to 20 scoped shipment summaries. The default is 10, and the caller can request a smaller limit.
  • Get shipment returns a curated snapshot for a shipment reference produced by search.
  • List pickup-ready shipments returns an authoritative count and list using stored provider, terminal, hold, and movement evidence.
  • Get empty-return acceptance returns the published terminal feed with its source, source time, and freshness. A current exact shipping-line and equipment match is required for a decisive result.
  • Create internal quote draft extracts a plain-language request into one editable quote draft. Partial requests return the missing information and a link to continue.

Read-only checks with one bounded write

Shipment and terminal-reference tools remain read-only. Empty-return results never treat a container number, missing row, line-only rule, or overdue source as acceptance. The only create action makes or reuses an internal quote draft from request text. It cannot calculate or approve pricing, dispatch drivers, refresh carrier providers, upload documents, contact the requester, or access another organization. Conterminal rechecks the connected user, OAuth client, workspace membership, and authorization for each request. Revoked membership stops access.

Data returned and excluded

Responses contain only the shipment fields needed to answer the request. They do not include uploaded documents, raw carrier or terminal provider payloads, billing details, internal database IDs, audit trace IDs, passwords, or access tokens. Conterminal records sanitized security telemetry for tool name, timing, result count, and success or error status; prompts and shipment identifiers are not stored in the connector audit log.

For quote-draft creation, Conterminal transiently processes the request text with an AI model. It stores the extracted quote facts and a cryptographic body hash, not the original request text. Conterminal may send an internal acknowledgement to the initiating user. It does not contact the original requester.

Example questions

  • Find container MSCU1234567.
  • Which of my shipments have an active hold?
  • Show three shipments at Maher Terminal.
  • What is the next milestone for this shipment?
  • Does Maher currently list MSC 40HC empties as accepted? Include the source time.
  • Find historical shipments for master bill MEDU1234567.
  • Create an internal quote draft for one 20-foot export container from New York port to Skippack, Pennsylvania.

Troubleshooting and revocation

  • If no workspace is offered, confirm that your Conterminal membership is active and that the organization is configured as a carrier or freight forwarder.
  • If a result is missing, verify the reference and your access in the Conterminal web application.
  • Remove the connection from ChatGPT to revoke the plugin's tokens. A Conterminal administrator can also disable the user or workspace membership.
