Save views and build a watchlist

Create, rename, reorder, and set a default

1. Get the grid the way you want it. Filters, column filters, sorting, which columns are visible, and their order are all captured. Nothing else is.
2. Press the + at the left of the tab strip. Its tooltip is Save current view as new view. The dialog is titled Save as new view and explains itself: “Save reporting filters, columns, sorting, and column filters as a new view.”
3. Name it. Type into View name. The save button stays disabled while the field is empty. Tick Make Default View if this should be the tab that opens first.
4. Save. The new tab is created and selected.

The per-tab menu

Every saved tab has a chevron on its right edge. The menu holds Save as new view, Rename view, Make Default View (hidden when the tab already is the default), then Move to start, Move left, Move right, Move to end, and finally Delete view.

One more item, Save view, appears at the top of that menu only when the tab is active and you have changed something since it was saved. The same condition puts a small dot on the chevron, so you can see unsaved work without opening the menu.

Reordering

Drag a tab sideways — it takes a few pixels of movement to start, so a plain click still selects the view — or use the four move commands in the menu. The new order saves immediately. If the save fails the tabs snap back to where they were and a red banner explains why.

The default view

You get one default per dashboard. It carries a small bar on its left edge and announces itself to a screen reader as “Opens first.” It is what loads when you open the dashboard with a plain URL. An explicit ?systemView=, ?view=, ?watchlist=1, or column filters in the address all take priority over it — that is why a bookmarked link can appear to ignore your default.

Deleting

Delete view asks the browser to confirm with “Delete saved view "Gate Out / Gate In"?” and there is no undo. If you delete the tab you were on, the dashboard falls back to your default, or to the first remaining tab.

Add containers to My Watchlist

The watchlist is a private marker on a shipment, kept per person per workspace. Adding a container does not start tracking it, does not change anything for your colleagues, and does not alter the shipment record. It only decides whether the row appears on your My Watchlist tab.

From a shipment page

Open the Actions menu. The first item shows a spinner and Loading My Watchlist... while Conterminal checks whether you have already saved this container, then settles on Add to My Watchlist or Remove from My Watchlist. Choosing it keeps the menu open and reports underneath: Saved to My Watchlist, Removed from My Watchlist, or Could not update My Watchlist. A failure rolls the item back to its previous state.

From the dashboard grid

1. Tick the checkboxes on the rows you want. The footer shows the view name and something like 12 selected.
2. Press Save 12 to My Watchlist. It becomes Saving… while it runs.
3. On the My Watchlist tab the same button reads Remove 12 from My Watchlist, and removed rows disappear from the grid as they go.

The button counts only rows that would actually change. If every row you selected is already saved, it reads Selected already in My Watchlist and is disabled. It is also disabled until the dashboard has finished loading the full dataset — the same gate that holds back Export CSV, select-all, and column filters.

Bulk-add by pasting container numbers

Switch to My Watchlist and press Add containers to My Watchlist at the bottom right. The button exists only on that tab. The dialog is titled Add Containers To My Watchlist and says “Paste up to 50 container numbers into the first column. Matching rows fill in automatically and are selected when they can be added.”

1. Paste into the first cell. It is the row marked Paste containers here. Values split on spaces, line breaks, commas, semicolons, and pipes, so a column copied out of a spreadsheet works as-is.
2. Wait a moment. A quarter-second after you stop typing, the dialog checks the numbers against your workspace. Validating... appears next to the counters while it works.
3. Read the counters. They show 12 valid, then 9 matched and 3 unavailable once the check returns. Valid means the text looks like a container number; matched means Conterminal found that container in your workspace.
4. Review what filled in. Matched rows show Lifecycle, Last Status, B/L, SSL, SSL ETA, Arrival Terminal, and Contents, and are ticked for you. The SSL ETA is the last vessel ETA LongShorty read from the steamship line, or the ETA on the record if there is none.
5. Add them. The button reads Add 9 To Watchlist and turns into Saving selected. On success the dialog closes, the dashboard switches to My Watchlist, and the grid reloads.

What counts as a container number

Each value is uppercased and stripped of everything that is not a letter or a digit, then it must come out as four letters followed by seven digits. Spaces, dashes, and stray punctuation are therefore harmless. There is no check-digit test, so a mistyped last digit passes this stage and simply fails to match anything.

Rows you cannot select

Greyed rows with a disabled checkbox are rows that cannot be added. Two of them tell you why on hover: Duplicate container number and Already in watchlist. A container that matches a record you no longer actively track is still addable — the dialog treats a current match and a previous one the same way.

Select every filled row for editing (they turn blue). Backspace or Delete then clears them all.

Space

Toggle the checkbox on the focused row, when that row can be added.

Set the workspace history window

The dashboard does not hold your whole history. It holds every open shipment plus returned ones from a rolling window, and that window is a workspace-wide setting rather than a personal one. The current setting is always visible in the toolbar as a button like Dashboard history · 120d · 4,812 — the window, then the number of rows in it.

Opening that button gives you Local dashboard history and the exact coverage rule: “Includes all open shipments, plus returned shipments from the selected 120-day window.” Below it sits Change history window in Settings.

1. Open Settings and find Reporting defaults.
2. Set History Window to Platform default (120 days), 120 days, 12 months, or 36 months — 120, 365, and 1,095 days respectively.
3. Press Save Reporting Default. It applies to everyone in the workspace immediately.

The window also caps your date filters. Pick a preset longer than the window and the chip reads Last 120 days, and the date picker's footer states “Live dashboard covers the last 120 days.” When a view returns nothing, the empty state is explicit about the cause: “The selected filters returned no rows in this local history window. A larger window may include older shipments,” with a Change history window shortcut. Widening is not free — a large workspace on a 36-month window can exceed the 10,000-row dashboard budget, which is why the settings panel warns about it.

The real limits

These are the caps enforced in the product, not rules of thumb. The server re-checks each one, so working around the interface does not get you past them.

Where saved views and the watchlist are missing

On a phone or a narrow window the dashboard swaps the tab strip for a single View dropdown. You can switch between system views, My Watchlist, and your saved views, and you can export CSV — but creating, renaming, reordering, deleting, and setting a default are all desktop-only, and so are row selection, saving to the watchlist, removing from it, and the paste dialog.
